By holistic we don't mean tree-hugging. We partly use the term to convey the idea of looking at each project in the sense of its own merits rather then coming at it with preconceptions or a 'templated' approach.
We also use it to convey our way of looking at a training need as a whole - taking account of the bigger picture and the context within which the training will take place. This often leads to an approach to learning that includes designing training pieces that cater for what happens both before and after training is delivered.
For example, as well as the training itself, we would also consider the communication around the training and subsequent performance support such as 'just in time' on-the-job refresher and reference tools. And, as well as online, there may be offline assignments, face-to-face training, coaching or discussion with peers via bulletin boards etc. The idea is to leave no stone unturned and consider all the options before making recommendations.
A holistic approach therefore works on two levels. As we've just described, at an overall strategy level with blended designs. On a more detailed level, a rounded approach to arriving at an appropriate design.
We really try hard to visualise the end result with the following criteria driving our design and creative thinking.
We may not be able to be 100% holistic in the most holistic sense of the word! But we do make every effort to provide our clients with a very thorough and thoughtful approach that looks at their training challenge from all angles.
"I remember that Brightwave was most impressive on first acquaintance for listening skills and offer of options. Those first impressions have been borne out by our experiences."
